About this station

Classic FM launched in 1992 as the UK's first national commercial classical station, and it changed who listened to classical music. Instead of whole symphonies and hushed announcements, it plays well-loved movements, overtures, arias and film scores, with friendly presenters who explain what you're hearing.
Every year its listeners vote in the Classic FM Hall of Fame, a countdown of the nation's favourite pieces, and the station's playlist reflects that: Rachmaninov, Vaughan Williams, Mozart, Beethoven, Elgar, and composers like John Williams and Howard Shore alongside them. It's a commercial station, so there are adverts.

When it's best
