About this station

WWOZ has been the sound of New Orleans since 1980. It's a community station, supported by listeners and hosted largely by volunteer DJs who know the city's music because they're part of it.
The range is the city's range: traditional and modern jazz, brass bands, rhythm and blues, funk, gospel, blues, zydeco and Cajun music, plus Caribbean and Latin sounds that have always flowed through the port. Every spring WWOZ broadcasts from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and its "Livewire" calendar of local gigs is a guide to the city's nightlife.

When it's best

Any time you want music played by people who live it. Evenings and weekends, when the specialty shows run, are especially good.
